During investigation, it also came to fore that the driving license of the driver was forged.
An Uber driver was arrested for masturbating while a woman passenger was seated in the cab in Central Delhi's Janpath.
According to the police, the incident occurred on the night of April 15. The woman, who was returning from Indore, arrived at the Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGIA) and booked Uber to go home.
"The accused Uber driver has been identified as Shokeen Khan. He was arrested after the woman raised an alarm at a barricade on Janpath. The driver tried to flee but was arrested by the police officers. He was taken into one-day police custody and produced before a court on Tuesday, and then sent to judicial custody," said Madhur Verma, Deputy Commissioner of Police, New Delhi.
During the investigation, it also came to fore that the driving license of the driver was forged, and he was driving his friend's car.
The woman had to be dropped at her home in Daryanganj area. While she was on her way, the driver suddenly took a diversion and started going on a different route stating there would be no traffic jam.
The woman, in her complaint, told the police that she noticed the driver had been looking down even though the car was moving. She initially thought he was checking the map but was shocked to see his pants half removed and he fondling his private parts.
She immediately asked the driver to stop the ride but he continued. The woman then got out of the car and alerted the police. The driver tried to run away but was overpowered by the police.
Last week, a man was arrested for flashing at two men in South Delhi's Vasant Kunj area. The man would ring the doorbell of houses and engage in a conversation while touching his private parts.
Prior to this, a DU student recorded a video of a man who was masturbating while being seated next to her on a moving DTC bus.
