Rahul Anwar one of the accused who was arrested for killing the fashion designer as well a domestic help was addicted to alcohol and would often gamble. Rahul's mother Anjum Begum stated that he had left home around four years back but had come to see the family, 21 days ago. The family members stated that after Anwar left the house none of them maintained any contact with him.

The news of the Anwar arrest came as a shock to family, as the family was told by a neighbour about their son's arrest.

"Our neighbour told us about the arrest at around 11 am in the morning, We then switched on the TV and learnt that police have caught him for killing the woman he used to work for," said Begum's husband Mohammad Anwar(58), who was a professional tailor until he caused an injury to his ankle in 2014 which forced him to remain bed ridden for almost two years.

Second among four brother and two sisters, Rahul was addicted to alcohol which became one of the reasons for him to be thrown out of the house.

"I threw him out the house as he didn't used to take care of his ageing parents and family. He also did not contribute to the family's income," his father said, adding that he had been working with Lakhani for past four years.

Rahul's associate in the murder, Mohammad Rehmat lives just about 10 meters away from his house. Rehmat's mother and father had also questioned him for leaving the home late night, however he assured them to return soon.

"We had dinner together. After that we went on to sleep and he left the house. We asked him where is he going this late, but he did not reply and said he will be back soon. After that it was only on the TV that we heard about him. We are not aware of what exactly happened," said Salauddin.

Rehmat's family hails from Madhepur in Bihar. His father remembers that he dropped out of the school in seventh class and started working as a whitewash labourer when he was 16-years-old. Since then he has been working as a labourer and at times visited Lakhani's house as he knew basics of the tailoring because of me.
