The Delhi Police's special cell has busted an interstate gunrunners' syndicate and arrested an arms supplier from Shikohabad in Uttar Pradesh on Tuesday. A huge cache of arms with 24 sophisticated pistols and cartridges were recovered following the raids.

According to senior police officers, the accused was identified as 40-year-old Vinod Kumar, a resident of Shikohabad. Nineteen sophisticated pistols, along with five semi-assembled pistols and 20 live cartridges were recovered from his possession at the time of his arrest near Sidhartha Enclave on Ashram Chowk here.

"Following an intensified drive against arms trafficking by the special cell, suppliers from different parts of the country including Khargone and Burhanpur (Madhya Pradesh), and Munger (Bihar) were put on the radar. The cell has recovered more than 500 illegal arms in past one year. Following surveillance, the police teams zeroed in on Vinod, and his men and were sent to Burhanpur, Sagar, and Khargone to track the movements of the identified accused," said PS Kushwah, DCP special cell.

On Tuesday, following a tip-off that Vinod will come to Delhi to supply weapons procured from Burhanpur in MP, a trap was laid near Ashram Chowk and around 3:25 pm on spotting the identified suspect, teams swung into action and arrested him, the DCP said.

"During interrogation, Kumar said that he used to receive the supply of pistols from a person who is resident of Burhanpur. The person was engaged in manufacturing of illegal weapons in Burhanpur and further supplied arms in Delhi and adjoining states. He said he has supplied more than 500 pistols to various criminals and revealed that he used to purchase one pistol for Rs 10,000 from suppliers. He then used to sell these pistols to various contacts for Rs 20,000 to 25,000 each," Kushwah said.
