Delhi police keep vigil on New Year's bash

Nearly 15K policemen to keep close watch on celebrations; no vehicles allowed in Connaught Place

Too much fun on New Year's eve can lead you in trouble as the Capital's police readies themselves with slew of preparation — from women cops in plain clothes to handy cabbies in pubs to drones — to ensure that the fun remains within permissible limits. Special teams to keep a check ensure that the apex court's guidelines of bursting crackers for only half an hour is followed. Around 15,000 delhi police officers will be out and about to check on people and ensure celebrations go on smoothly.

The Delhi police have made elaborate arrangements keeping in mind Delhiites will be out to party on the New Year's Eve. Keeping in mind a large number of women and girls would be out to celebrate, women officers have been deployed in areas like Khan Market, Connaught Place, Hauz Khas, University areas among others to make sure in case of help or any incident they can be approached and reached out to easily. The heart of the National Capital, Connaught Place as well as New Delhi area which has five star hotels hosting parties, the area will have around 24 police picket to ensure no one indulges in drunk driving.

Police officials all over Delhi have held meetings with various pubs, clubs, lounges hosting parties asking them to ensure their guests do not leave the party drunk and driving themselves. Police officers have requested them to keep drivers on call as standby in case of any emergency.

"Bursting of crackers is only allowed from 12am to 12:30am for a period of half an hour only. Legal action will be taken against those who violate the norm. Every police station in the Capital has a anti-cracker team. All places have been asked to close down by 1am in order to regulate vehicular movement. Police officers across the Capital will also keep a check on drug abuse being carried out at parties," said Madhur Verma, DCP New Delhi area and PRO.

Sources stated that since a large number of people come out on the roads on New Year's eve drones have been kept as well as keeping a check on everyone physically becomes impossible. Officers in plain clothes in parks, common areas, bus stands, parking lots will also be deployed to ensure they are not being used by anti-social elements.

GURUGRAM

Similarly, Gurugram will also observe traffic restrictions for smoother celebrations 

Parking will be restricted at Sahara Mall, Vipul Arora Building, DTC City Centre, Metropolitian Mall, JMD Mall, Ambience Mall, KOD sector 29, Sector 29, Huda Ground, Galleria Mall, DLF South point Mall, Good Earth Mall, Cyber Hub, Sahara Grace Chakkarpur Road, Naka Bristal Chowk. 

Around 42 police teams will make their presence felt at various crowded areas and border localities of the district. 

There will be special police presence at Sohna Road, Faridabad, Delhi, Manesar and Farrukhnagar localities starting from 3pm today. MG Road will be no entry Zone since 3pm today

Along with regular staff additional force of 2,000 policeman will be present across the city. Durga Shakti Rapid Police force will be present to curb women related crime.

DELHI

Traffic Police has made elaborate traffic arrangements throughout the city for the smooth flow and regulation of traffic on the eve of New Year.  

Following restrictions shall be imposed from 8.00 pm onwards from today in the vicinity of Connaught Place till the conclusion of New Year Celebrations.  It will be applicable to all private and public transport vehicles. 

1. No vehicle shall be allowed to proceed towards Connaught Place beyond (i) R/A Mandi House (ii) R/A Bengali Market (iii) North foot of Ranjit Singh Flyover (iv) Minto Road – Deen Dayal Upadhaya Marg crossing (v) Chelmsford Road near Munje Chowk (New Delhi Rly. Station) (vi) R.K. Ashram Marg-Chitragupta Marg Crossing (vii) R/A Gole Market (viii) R/A G.P.O., New Delhi

2. Traffic arrangements have also been made at the places having high footfall, including Saket, Greater Kailash, Lajpat Nagar, New Friends Colony, Hauz khas, Defence Colony, Vasant Vihar, RK Puram.
