Delhi's draft electoral roll, which will be up for public scrutiny from Saturday shows a decrease of 93,715 and 48,028 male and female voters respectively since October 2017. The data was provided by the office of the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) on Friday.
There are 70 assembly constituencies in the capital.
The primary objective of the Special Summary Revision – 2019 is to include newly eligible voters from September 1, i.e. who have completed or will be completing age of 18 on or before Saturday. According to the sources, another objective for the revision-2019 is to give opportunities for correction in electors' particulars and also to invite objections against any wrong inclusion in the electoral roll. According to the experts, the number of bogus voters have been removed from the list due to which the numbers have reduced.
The CEO will be taking claims and objections from September 1 to October 31. As per the data provided by the CEO, as many as 7,614,359 male voters were reported till October 2017 that reduced to 7,520,824 till September 1 this year.
"Out of the total forms-6, received during the period of Continuous Updation, 51.84 % forms were received online while 48.16 % forms were received offline. It is inferred that the persons are using the option of online submission of application forms, which is a good trend," a statement from CEO office stated.
Meanwhile, as many as 100 village developmental projects entailing an expenditure of Rs 79 crore were sanctioned during a two-day special drive, Delhi Development Minister Gopal Rai said on Friday.
"These projects will be implemented within two months," he told the media, adding that such drives were necessary to speed up work in villages.
"I will review the progress on the projects for a few days. I will repeat the drive if much time is taken to clear the projects related to village development," the Aam Aadmi Party leader and Minister for Employment, Development, Labour, General Administration and Irrigation said.
