The craze for sensational selfies claimed another life in the Capital when a 23-year-old man was shot dead accidentally while posing with a loaded pistol in Sarita Vihar. It was Prashant Chauhan's minor cousin who pulled the trigger of the pistol while posing with him. The 17-year-old has been arrested.

DCP southeast, Chinmoy Biswal confirmed the incident, saying the police received a call regarding the incident at around 6.35 pm on Thursday from Apollo hospital, where Chauhan, a teacher in Shahdara, was taken for treatment by his family members.The weapon is licensed in the name of the teenager's father, a property dealer named Promod Chauhan, who was out of the house at the time.

Biswal said the police have registered a case under IPC Section 304 (Culpable homicide not amounting to murder). Cops are also investigating negligence on the part of father. The pistol and empty cartridge were seized after the incident.Freak accidents, where people are killed while taking selfies, have become common both in India and abroad. In September last year, a 50-year-old man was killed while trying to take a selfie with an elephant in Rourkela, Orissa. Early this year, a 25-year-old man in Telangana was hit by a train while trying to take a selfie.
