Delhi: Gangster arrested while extorting money from doctor

An associate of Manjeet Mahal and Pradeep Solanki gang was arrested by the Dwarka district police for trying to extort Rs one crore from a renowned doctor. 

According to the police, the main accused has been identified as Jitendra Singh alias Jitu. The police are looking for four of his associates. Officials stated that the accused made around 10-12 calls to the doctor via WhatsApp between December 1 and December 12. The doctor is the owner of a hospital in west Delhi’s Uttam Nagar. 

The Delhi Police on Wednesday said they arrested a 35-year-old associate of jailed gangsters Manjeet Mahal and Pradeep Solanki for allegedly attempting to extort Rs one crore from a doctor by threatening to kill him and his son.

The victim received a call in his phone but since he did not recognise the number, he did not answer. Later, the doctor answered the call and was threatened by the accused who demanded Rs one crore. When the doctor stopped answering the phone, the accused reached his hospital. “While three of the accused remained outside the hospital, two of them barged inside. The accused covered their faces, brandished their pistols and threatened the doctor,” said a police official. 

The accused could not find the hospital owner and later threatened the staff members and told them if the money is not paid, they would kill the doctor and his son. The accused were extorting in the name of Manjeet Mahal and Pradeep Solanki. The doctor was informed about the accused visiting the hospital and threatening the staff. 

The accused then called up the doctor and asked him to pay Rs one crore and threatened to kill him and his son. The police registered a case under appropriate sections of the Indian Penal Code.

The police analysed the calls and conducted raids at several places. Finally, the accuse Jitendra was arrested from his hideout.
