Deputy Chief Minister, Manish Sisodia, on Monday, directed the Chief Secretary to suspend a senior officials of the Department of Women and Child Development after nine girls went missing from a shelter home in the Dilshad Garden. Delhi Commission for Women Chairperson has written to Deputy Chief Minister demanding strict action against the officials and to Delhi Police recommending investigation in the case to be transferred to the Crime Branch of Delhi Police so that urgent and immediate action is taken to trace the girls.

"The matter of the nine girls going from Sanskar Ashram for girls (SAG) is extremely serious and unfortunate. The Department of Women and Child Development has failed in its duty to provide a safe and secure environment for minor girls who were placed under the protection of the state. In view of the same, it is directed that the district officer, North East, WCD and Superintendent, SAG Home are immediately placed under suspension and their charge is given to competent and sensitive officers," stated the direction to CS.

The nine girls were transferred from a shelter home in Dwarka to Sanskar Ashram for Girls on May 4, 2018, on orders of the Child Welfare Committee-VII. The girls were victims of human trafficking and commercial sexual exploitation and there was a possibility of the traffickers/brothels owners kidnapping these girls.

"The Commission received a complaint from a learned member of CWC wherein it was stated that a Superintendent had also beaten several other girls and her conduct was highly improper. However, no action was taken by either the Department of Women and Child Development or the Delhi Police on the said complaints. More importantly, the conduct of home authorities has remained suspect," said Swati Maliwal, Chairperson, DCW.

"On the intervening night of December 1 and 2, nine minor girls who were residents of Sanskar Ashram for Girls, Dilshad Garden went missing from the home and the home authorities claim not to have a clue on how and when these girls went missing. Their absence was discovered the next morning. An FIR No. 388 PS GTB Enclave dated December 2 has been registered by the Delhi Police.

FIR has been registered for one of the girls, she is a minor. The rest eight are major, and a missing report has been lodged for them. Investigations are in progress," said Meghana Yadav, Delhi Commissioner of Police, Shahdara.
