Delhi airport makes arrangements to deal with fog

GMR group led Delhi International Airport Limited (DIAL) on Thursday stated that they were well equipped and prepared for handling the fog season. The officials stated that in the coming weeks the fog season would begin and ceilometer have been installed to ascertain the fog depth in advance.

Various facilities have been put in place for passengers in order to avoid any sort of inconvenience to them.

DIAL CEO Videh Kumar Jaipuriar said, "To combat Delhi Fog, Air Traffic Controllers, Airlines, Ground Handlers, Meteorological Department and Airport staff work in close coordination. Handling operations smoothly during fog is a true reflection of our capabilities, Operational-Readiness, Emergency-Preparedness and Crises Response."

Jaipuriar further added that the Terminal team ensures sufficient food and beverage, updated flight information and takes care of another requirement of passengers and airlines. On airside, DIAL staff provides Follow-Me service to ensure seamless movement of aircraft in dense fog situation and maintain a vigil to avoid any untoward incident.

"The Cityside team works with equal rigour to ensure the vehicular movement on the roads and parking areas are orderly and safe," he added.

The Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGIA) is one of the busiest in the country and sees a football of around 55,000 passengers every day. Operations on the runway are closed if visibility range drops below 50 metres. Among other initiatives, the airport operator said that food and beverage (F&B) partners are aligned for faster availability of refreshments at a short notice of time. There are 139 parking stands equipped with aeronautical ground lighting (AGL) system which helps aircraft to operate in CAT IIIB conditions. In addition, there are 89 parking stands available under manual guidance.
