Delhi: 45-year-old ends life by jumping in front of metro train at Rajiv Chowk

The commuters had to face a tough time as the Metro services on the Blue Line were disrupted for almost an hour.

A 45-year-old man allegedly jumped in front of the Metro train in an attempt to commit suicide at Rajiv Chowk on Blue line on Tuesday morning. Police said the man succumbed to his injuries and they have not recovered any suicide note from his possession. The commuters had to face a tough time as the Metro services on the Blue Line were disrupted for almost an hour.

According to the police, the deceased has been identified as Pramod Kumar. The Metro services from Dwarka to Noida City Centre were disrupted, said a senior DMRC official.

"We received a call at the Rajiv Chowk Metro station informing about a man who had jumped in front of a Metro train in order to commit suicide at around 9:34 am. The man was taken to the Lady Hardinge Medical College where he was declared brought dead on arrival," said Deputy Commissioner of Police, (Metro), Dinesh Gupta.

The police said that following the incident, the family members of the deceased were informed.

"During the investigation, it came to light that Kumar used to work with the ESI hospital in Rohini Sector 15. However, he had left his job about a month ago. During the questioning, his family informed that his wife had left him about five years ago as they did not have a child. The family members informed us that he was heading to Noida to withdraw his Provident Fund (PF)," said Gupta.

Meanwhile, according to the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) spokesperson, the Metro services came to a halt from Rajiv Chowk towards Noida City Centre following the unfortunate incident that too during the peak office hours.

The police said that further investigation is underway.
