The Delhi Commission for Women chief, Swati Maliwal, appealed to Lieutenant Governor of Delhi to shut GB road brothels immediately after visiting the Sanskar Ashram shelter home, from where nine girls went missing on Sunday. Maliwal visited the Ashram on Tuesday morning with two other DCW members, Promila Gupta, and Vandana Singh, and described the conditions there dismal and suffocating.

"Our team was deeply disturbed to find that the girls were not given proper and adequate food and clothing. Further, the girls complained of not being shown to doctors and it was observed that their regular medical check-up was not done. The attitude of the staff was laid back and insensitive which resulted in untold misery for the girls," stated Maliwal in a released.

DCW also found out that the nine girls who went missing had been earlier rescued from GB Road, by the Commission itself. Chief has now appealed to Lieutenant Governor to ensure that GB Road is immediately closed down and to Delhi government to ensure better condition in shelter homes as well as create rehabilitation schemes for survivors of trafficking.

"Commission, at great risk manages to rescue girls from GB Road who end up being re-trafficked. She said that the traffickers at GB Road were definitely responsible for the abduction of these girls and there were high chances of the girls ending up back in GB Road. Brothels at GB Road are hubs of trafficking and each girl there is raped by 30 men daily. The police station at 200m remains a mute spectator at best and colludes with the traffickers at worst," added Maliwal.

In its released, the commission also expressed its disappointment that despite two days have passed, police has no clue regarding the whereabouts of the girls and is busy proving to the world that majority of the girls were majors. "This reveals the insensitive attitude of the police for major or minor, the girls need to be traced urgently. We have appealed to the Police Commissioner to transfer the case to Crime Branch," it added.
