Manoj Singh Tomar, a former Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) Commando and the sole survivor of a Maoist attack in 2014, was operated for colostomy at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) on Friday after he went on record showing disappointment with the Forces for forgetting him. Currently, recovering at the Trauma Centre, the jawan is the only one alive from a troop of 18 which was attacked by Maoists in Sukma.

"He had already been operated upon six times at AIIMS Raipur before he was admitted here last week. He had gone through colostomy, thus his intestines were out, and caused him trouble as they herniated (or prolapsed). Our surgeons have now put the intestine back in the body and the patient is recovering," said Dr Biplab Mishra, Professor of Surgery, AIIMS Trauma Center (Jai Prakash Narayan Apex Trauma Center).

The past week, Tomar had gone on social media to express his disappointment in the Centre and to show how the government treats soldiers injured in combat areas. This led to a clarification from the CRPF that said that he had been given proper care and treatment all these four years.

"Constable Manoj Tomar carries colostomy bag to collect wastages from intestine costing Rs 1,000 daily. All medical expenses are borne by force besides are in consultations with AIIMS for further treatment (also received 19lacs as compensation for injuries). Due 2 the nature of his injuries he must take help of Colostomy Bag which is the part of his treatment. CRPF is proud and dutybound to take care of our Martyrs families and injured gallant men in action (sic)," tweeted the CRPF.

Tomar was airlifted to Raipur after he received bullet shots near the Tongpal Police Station near Jeeram Ghati, about 50 km from the Sukma region in Chhatisgarh. On Friday, after four years of carrying his intestines in an external pouch, the jawan was operated upon in a 2.5-hour long surgery.
