This is the first breakthrough in the case so far as none of the accused have been arrested till date, after which the Crime Branch was asked to look into the investigations
Two of the four accused, who had shot dead a Congress Seva Dal worker a week ago in full public view, have been identified by the Delhi Police's Crime Branch and their sketches were released on Monday. This is the first breakthrough in the case so far as none of the accused have been arrested till date, after which the Crime Branch was asked to look into the investigations.
Vinod Mehra, a 43-year-old political worker, also a property dealer, was shot dead by four unidentified miscreants following a heated argument allegedly over a road rage incident at GT Karnal Road on February 6. A number of teams led by DCP northwest, Aslam Khan are working on the case but have failed to get any breakthrough so far, senior officers said.
So far, more than 30,000 Eeco vans have been scanned as the accused were seen fleeing in a similar looking vehicle. Of these, police have been able to zero in on eight such vehicles. However, nothing conclusive has been achieved.
Various eyewitnesses were examined and their statements were recorded, however, no substantial lead could be made in connection with the case. The Crime Branch of Delhi Police prepared the sketches of two of the accused. The Crime Branch is also carrying out a probe in connection with the case.
Mehra (43) resided with his family in Geeta Colony area. Mehra's wife works as an Inspector in the Delhi Police. The victim along with his 15-year old nephew had gone to attend the wedding of his friend's son in one of the venues on the GT Karnal Road.
The duo was on their way back in his Wagon-R car during the wee hours when another rashly driven vehicle was driving next to them. The occupants of both the cars engaged in a verbal spat which ended on the Bhalsawa flyover when both of them stopped and got out of their car.
Even before Mehra could realise what the accused men were about to do, he was shot at in the chest, below his heart by one of them. The accused men then fled from the location leaving the victim bleeding.
