Local Congress and Samajwadi Party workers on Thursday staged two separate protests against the Central government over steep hike in the petrol and diesel prices saying that it has affected the common people.

The two protests led by these parties were held in Noida outside the city magistrate and district magistrate’s offices. It was followed by bike rallies and sloganeering against the Central government.

The Congress workers sat outside the city magistrate’s office and shouted slogans against the Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led government. “The prices of fuel are almost touching the sky, how will the common man bear his household expenses. The only question every person is asking today is that when the crude prices are USD 70 per barrel, why is it that petrol prices are Rs 85 per litre and diesel Rs 73 a litre here?” said Pawan Sharma, a Congress worker.

On the other hand, workers of the Samajwadi Party gathered outside the district magistrate’s office and later took out a rally where they walked along bikes as a symbol of running out of fuel.

“The government should understand that we are unable to afford fuel. A time will come when we will have to drag our bikes as we will not have the money to buy fuel,” said Vikram Singh, a SP worker.
