As many as 17 people, including 10 women, were killed in the blaze at a firecracker factory in Bawana Industrial Area on January 20
Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Wednesday met the families members of the victims of Bawana fire incident and handed over ex-gratia cheques to them. As many as 17 people, including 10 women, were killed in the blaze at a firecracker factory in Bawana Industrial Area on January 20.
"The CM distributed compensation cheques of Rs 5 lakh each to families of 17 people who died in the incident," an official said, adding he also assured them of all possible help from the government.
Meanwhile, the Delhi government-appointed team visited the factory which was doused in fire and left 17 people dead in Bawana. The team comprising of Principal Secretary (Home) and officials from the MCD, Delhi Police and Delhi Fire Services. The officials spoke to the labourers working in the area.
"We are closely monitoring all the details in the case. A report will be prepared and submitted to the government in a week," said one of the members, present during the inspection.
The AAP government has blamed the BJP-run civic body for the incident.
In its preliminary report, the Delhi State Industrial and Infrastructure Development Corporation Ltd said it does not have any regulatory functions nor is it mandated to issue any type of licence for factory construction.
Delhi Industries Minister Satyendar Jain had said the responsibility of issuing license and approving building plans lies with the municipal corporations.
