The civic body also suspended its three engineers in Chhattarpur area for not taking action against rampant unauthourised construction.

The corporation's building department conducted its demolition drive in the South Zone over the week in areas including Chhatarpur, Chirag Dilli, Khirki Extension, Krishna Park-Khanpur and Said-Ul-Ajaib, among others.

"As many as seven properties were demolished and were left in an uninhabitable condition. Besides, two properties were sealed in Khirki and Rajpur Khurd areas, respectively," said a senior officer.

The officers claimed that local residents created hindrance and protested against the demolition action.

"Despite the locals putting pressure on the demolition squad, the action was taken successfully. The drive will create a deterrent for unscrupulous builders who have been violating the laws," the official said.

The demolition has been done under Building Control Regulations notified in the Master Plan-2021 and Building Bye-Laws- 2016.

To further discourage illegal construction, other government departments including Delhi Jal Board and power discoms have been asked to disconnect the water and electricity connections of such properties.

"In a surprise inspection, the team found that rampant unauthourised construction was going on. Consequently, one Executive Engineer (Building) Ashok Kumar, Assistant Engineer SK Jain and junior engineer BM Sharma have been suspended pending enquiry," the official added.
