A woman was arrested after her vehicle allegedly rammed a 24-year-old car mechanic in Moolchand area of South East Delhi on Saturday. The victim was repairing a car when he was hit. The accused, along with her friend, fled leaving the car behind, locals police said.

Rudra Aashish Pandey, Nitish and Gaurav were returning home after attending a marriage in Moti Bagh. Their car broke down after they crossed Moolchand Underpass at Ring Road, following which they went to the mechanic," said Deputy Commissioner of police (southeast) Chinmoy Bisawal.

The speeding Chevrolet Cruze hit the mechanic, injuring Nitish and Gaurav, police said.

"The car was being driven by a woman who fled the spot leaving her car behind and was later identified as Ananya Khurana, a resident of Lajpat Nagar-II. The mechanic succumbed to the injuries. A case was registered at Lajpat Nagar Police Station under section 304 A (Causing death by negligence) and the investigation has been initiated," said Biswal.

An eyewitness alleged that the accused was drunk. " The accused driver has been arrested. However, a medical examination will confirm the presence of alcohol. Further investigation is underway," said Biswal.
