Businessman on the run for years, arrested by Delhi police

Police said that the accused is a famous business man in his area and wholesale dealer of rice and pulses.

The south east district of Delhi police have arrested a Patna based business man who had been avoiding arrest from the past 19 years in a cheating case, from Bihar. Police said that the accused is a famous business man in his area and wholesale dealer of rice and pulses.

According to the police, the accused has been identified as Ajay Kumar (46), a resident of Patna, who was absconding in a cheating and forgery case registered in the year 1999 at Okhla Industrial Area police station.

"In February 1999, the complainant alleged that the company had been cheated for Rs.16,40,000/- by submitting two forged demand drafts of Rs. 8,20,000/- each of State Bank of India, Lakhi Sarai Branch, Bihar and alleged took computers worth Rs.16,40,000/- from his company. Till now all the efforts to arrest him were in vain. In 2003, Kumar was declared Proclaimed Offender by Patiala House Court," said Chinmoy Biswal, Deputy commissioner of Police (South- east).

Police had conducted raids at native village of accused Kumar but accused was not found residing there. Further, team gathered information that accused is running a wholesale trade business of pulses, rice and oils in Patna.

"Following the information, a team raided and laid a trap at Ramjaipal Nagar in Patna and Kumar was nabbed. During interrogation Kumar disclosed that in 1998 he along with his associates namely Anoop and Akhilesh conducted a business deal with a businessman of Okhla and purchased computer parts worth Rs. 16,40,000/-. They gave forged Demand Draft of SBI Bank to the victim. The above mentioned computer parts were sold by the accused persons and from the money earned, Kumar started his wholesale business of pulses, rice and oil. Accused Anoop and Akhilesh were already arrested in this case but accused Ajay was absconding and evading his arrest," said Biswal

Police have arrested him under sections 406/420/468/471/ 120B of the Indian Penal Code and further investigation of the case is in progress.

During interrogation Kumar disclosed that in 1998 he along with his associates namely Anoop and Akhilesh conducted a business deal with a businessman and gave forged Demand Draft to the victim.
