Two days after a 15-year-old student of Ahlcon Public School committed suicide, her parents and many others blocked the Delhi-Noida link road on both sides, demanding a CBI probe and immediate dismissal of accused teachers.
The protest disrupted traffic between the two cities for over five hours as family members of the deceased sat on a stretch near Mayur Vihar Phase-1 Metro station. They were later forcefully picked up and sent home.
Two teachers and the principal of the East Delhi school were booked on Wednesday for sexual harassment, abatement to suicide, and criminal intimidation, a day after the body of the class IX student was found hanging in her Noida house.
Anger also soared because the police are yet to arrest anyone in the case, claiming that it was prima facie difficult to understand if the girl was intentionally failed in her exam and also if she was sexually harassed.
The protest started from outside the school that blocked vehicular movement and thousands of commuters were left stranded. Those coming from Noida to Delhi had no option but to take interior roads.
Many protestors wanted to show solidarity with the victim's family and later created ruckus on the road. "The family ignored repeated requests to clear the road. We waited for three to four hours. Children were returning back home from school but the family did not relent," said Kabir Arora, a commuter.
The family has said that sexual harassment led to the suicide, an allegation denied by school authorities. Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia has asked the education department to probe the case.
It was late on Tuesday night when the girl's body was found hanging from the ceiling of her house in Noida Sector 52.
The family has alleged that the girl was in depression following sexual harassment by the two teachers and also because of poor marks.
The family said the girl had complained three months ago that her teacher Rajiv Sehgal touches her inappropriately and threatened to flunk her if she resisted or raised an alarm.
After this, the girl's father even went to the school and met the principal but no action was taken. The family has also said that she was in depression as her Science teacher Neeraj Anand deliberately used to give her low marks.
