According to the police, the accused has been identified as Sarvesh, a tea vendor, who was caught red-handed committing the act by the victim's mother.
A 46-year-old man has been arrested for allegedly sexually assaulting a one-and-a-half-year-old girl in Maujpur area of North-West Delhi on Friday. Police said the man was known to the victim and he was arrested following a complaint filed by the victim's parents. The accused was produced in front of the court on Saturday and sent to jail.
According to the police, the accused has been identified as Sarvesh, a tea vendor, who was caught red-handed committing the act by the victim's mother.
"The accused lives in the same building as that of the victim. On Friday evening, the minor girl was alone at her house at the time of the incident. On finding the girl alone, the man entered her house. He allegedly touched her due to which the minor girl started crying," said Atul Kumar Thakur, Deputy Commissioner of Police (North-East).
As the mother of the victim was nearby, she heard the girl's cries and ran towards the house. She caught the accused at her house and raised an alarm.
"Locals thrashed the victim and a police control room call was made at 5.30pm. The locals handed the accused to the police," said Thakur.
