25-year-old man arrested for sexually assaulting elderly woman at her house in Greater Noida

A 25-year-old man has been arrested by the police for allegedly trying to rape and sexually assault a seventy-five-year-old woman in Dankaur area of Greater Noida. While the alleged crime had taken place on Monday evening, when the woman was sitting outside her house in Greater Noida, the arrest was made on Wednesday morning only, police said.

According to the police, the accused has been identified as Waseem, who lived in victim's neighborhood in Dankaur area of Greater Noida.

"The victim was sitting outside her house at around 8 pm on Monday. The accused Waseem, who lived near her house, first allegedly tried to touch her inappropriately and then dragged her inside the house and attempted to rape her. When the elderly woman started screaming and raise an alarm, the accused fled away from the spot. He also threatened her of dire consequences if she revealed anything about the incident to anyone," said a senior police officer.

The woman, however, told her son about the incident on that night itself following which he filed a complaint with the police the next day. The accused was arrested by the police from the locality on Wednesday morning. He was produced before the court and was later remanded to judicial custody.

"Following the complaint received at the police station, an FIR under IPC sections 354A (offence of sexual harassment), 376 and 511 (attempt to rape) was registered and the accused was arrested from the locality. He was produced before the court and has been sent to jail," said Farmood Ali Pundeer, Station House Officer of Dankaur Police station.
