An 18-year-old man was allegedly stabbed to death by his friend on Thursday after a scuffle broke out between the two over a petty issue in northwest Delhi’s Jahangir Puri. The accused, identified as Yogesh (19) had a tiff with the victim, Dipak who refused to take him shopping on his bike on Wednesday. To settle the score, he stabbed him to death the day after, said police.

Yogesh is now in police custody.

According to the police, a quarrel broke out between the two after Dipak refused to take Yogesh for shopping because he wanted to spend time with his family.  

“We got a police control room call at around 12:15 pm informing about a person who was stabbed in Jahangir Puri. Dipak was rushed to Babu Jagjivan Ram Memorial Hospital where he was declared dead on arrival. Initial probe revealed that he was stabbed by his friend Yogesh who was nabbed from Bhilaswa Dairy area,” said Aslam Khan, Deputy Commissioner of Police (northwest).

During interrogation, the accused confessed to the crime.

“The two got into a fight which was which was later settled by their parents. However, on Thursday morning, the accused was waiting for an opportunity to take revenge from him over last night’s issue,” said Khan.

When the accused spotted Dipak, he pounced upon him and stabbed him in his chest and fled from the spot.

“The accused was nabbed from his relatives’ house with an hour of the incident. We registered a case under relevant sections of the Indian Penal code,” said Khan.
