A 19-year-old youth was allegedly shot dead in Outer Delhi's Sultanpuri area on Saturday evening. The deceased was sitting with his friend when armed assailants shot him in his head. The entire incident was captured in the CCTV cameras installed in the area. A case of murder against unknown persons has been registered, the police said.

According to the police, the deceased has been identified as Lavish Solanki, a resident of Pooth Kalan area, who succumbed to his injuries at the hospital on Monday morning.

"We received a police control room call on Saturday night about a person being shot at. A team was rushed to the spot and it we found a youth with bullet injuries. He was rushed to the hospital by his friend who was present at the site," said Seju Kuruvilla, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Outer district).

A case under section 307 (attempt to murder) had been lodged on Saturday. However, that was changed to section 302 (murder) of the Indian Penal Code on Monday, the police said.

However, according to the deceased's friend, the two met after dinner and the deceased allegedly shot himself while speaking to someone over the phone, the police said. The police are trying to corroborate the friend's statement with that of the CCTV footages.

"We have recorded the friend's statement and have collected the CCTV footages from the area. The friend is being interrogated thoroughly. We have sent the body for a post-mortem examination and the results are awaited," said Kuruvilla.
