'Yeh sarkaar bhagwakaran ki taraf iss desh ko le jaige': Congress leaders smell politics behind India's orange WC jersey

As the league phase hits the home stretch, India will look to ensure a smooth passage into the semi-finals with yet another victory. But it could be easier said than done against a West Indies side, which might play party poopers with nothing to lose in their remaining few games.

As the league phase hits the home stretch, India will look to ensure a smooth passage into the semi-finals with yet another victory. But it could be easier said than done against a West Indies side, which might play party poopers with nothing to lose in their remaining few games.

In fact, West Indies' unpredictability and the former India captain's repeated failure during the important second Powerplay overs leaves skipper Virat Kohli with a few points to ponder. Dhoni's painfully slow approach against the Afghanistan yielded 28 off 52 balls and he was roundly criticised. Even the normally restrained Sachin Tendulkar questioned the approach.

According to the ICC, colour options were handed over to BCCI and they chose what they felt went best with the colour combination. The whole idea is to be different as England also wears a same shade of blue as India. The design is taken from India’s old T20 jersey which had orange in it.

But the Maharashtra Congress MLA MA Khan had something different to say about it. When asked about Team India's probable new ORANGE jersey, the Congress leader had something very interesting to say about the colour and the design of it.

During an interview, MLA MA Khan said, "Yeh sarkaar har cheez ko alag nazar se dekhne aur dikhane ki koshish poore desh mein pichle panch saal se kar rahi hai. Yeh sarkaar bhagwakaran ki taraf iss desh ko le jane ka kaam kar rahi hai. (This BJP government always tries or looks at everything in a different away. They have been trying to do that all over the country for the past five years or so. This BJP government is trying to Safranise the entire country.)"

He then went on to add, "Ever since this Modi Government came in, they have started a new trend where they have started to provoke everyone to do the saffron politics and it really sad for a country like India."

"It is not a political issue. If the team and BCCI do not have problem, then it does not matter what colour Indian team wears. What matters is that they should play well and win the world cup," he told reporters.

BJP spokesperson Nalin Kohli attacked those criticising the choice of orange as the jersey colour.

"It is myopic and reactionary politics without application of mind. Those who criticise saffron forget that it is a part of the national flag. This is not an instant or immediate decision. If the colour of flag is used, then it should increase our sense of pride and nationalism, and not lead to such a reaction," Kohli said
