Rohit Sharma and Shikhar Dhawan added 127 runs for the first wicket as they gave India a very good start against Australia at the Kennington Oval in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019 on Sunday.

This was the 16th time Rohit Sharma and Shikhar Dhawan have added more the 100 runs for the first wicket. They are now equal with Mathew Hayden and Adam Gilchrist with the second most century stands as an opening pair. Sourav Ganguly and Sachin Tendulkar have put on 21-century stands in the ODIs. They also became the most successful opening pair against Australia in the ODIs going past West Indies pair of Gordon Greenidge and Desmond Haynes. 

Shikhar Dhawan and Rohit Sharma started cautiously after Virat Kohli won the toss and opted to bat first. The pair, however, soon grew in confidence and went for their shots. Shikhar Dhawan’s fifty came in 53 balls while Rohit reached the mark in 62 balls. The duo added 127 runs for the first wicket and set some new records and reached some new milestones on the way.
