Indian cricket captain Virat Kohli was left embarrassed by a waiter during the South Africa tour.
Virat Kohli and other Team India players are often stopped by fans and asked for selfies, autographs and handshakes. They players also except and accept this a part of the job.
However, such expactions became the reason for Indian cricket captain Virat Kohli's embarrasment during Team India's recent tour of South Africa.
India were in South Africa to play a series of three Tests, six ODIs and three T20Is in earlier this year.
Virat Kohli narrated the incident during an exclusive interview with ESPN. He also recalled how his teammates went mad with laughter.
The incident happened during the tour when Kohli was out with his teammates for lunch in Cape Town.
During the lunch, Kohli was approached by one of the waiters who shook hands with him. When Kohli saw another waiter approach him, he naturally thought that he too wanted to shake his hand.
Kohli reached to shake his hand but the waiter picked up a dirty plate instead which is why he had his arm out in the first place.
"These guys went mad. I felt so embarrassed. He didn't even look at my hand!" Kohli said.
Kohli was left embarrassed after the incident while his teammates had a good laugh.
Kohli also said that he felt that five stars hotel rooms, where he spends most time of his cricketing calendar year, are just like “royal jails”.
Blaming it on his popularity and celebrity status, Kohli told the sports magazine that he cannot even manage to go to the restaurants of the hotels he stays in.
“I can’t even think of going down to the hotel restaurant to eat. Forget going out of the hotel”.
During the interview he also revealed how he met three Indians in Finland on his honeymoon with wife Anushka Sharma and that he had to request the three men not to share any pictures of the couple on social media.
"We bumped into three Indians at a coffee shop. What are the odds?" Kohli said.
In order to continue enjoying their holiday, the couple requested them not to share the pictures on social, which they obliged to.
