Former Indian skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni apart from being one of the most successful Indian captains is also widely regarded as one of the best mentor figures in the side as most of the current Indian players started their careers under him.

Skipper Virat Kohli has time and again shed light on the mutual respect they both share and has said that Dhoni will always remain his captain, regardless of him not being active in the international circuit anymore. Dhoni, who is known to bring the best out of the players.

Another top-order player, who started his career under Dhoni, KL Rahul has also praised Dhoni and now Kohli for whatever stripes he has earned in terms of captaincy after he took over the leadership role of Punjab Kings in the IPL last year.

In an interaction with Forbes India, KL Rahul said that the biggest achievement a captain can have is respect of his players and added that the minute anybody says, captain, the first name that comes to mind is Dhoni.

“The minute anybody says captain, the first name which comes into anybody’s mind from our generation is MS Dhoni. We have all played under him. Yes, he has won a lot of tournaments, done amazing things for the country but I think the biggest achievement that as a captain you can have is respect of your teammates,” Rahul said.

“You know, any of us would take a bullet for him without a second thought. Something that I have learnt from him is how humble he has been through ups and downs. How he put his country ahead of everything else is just unbelievable,” he added.

Dhoni, who retired from international cricket last year, is still playing in the IPL for Chennai Super Kings and after a forgetful last year, the men in yellow turned in around this year with some outstanding performances and won five out of their seven games.
