After announcing his retirement from international cricket and the Indian Premier League (IPL), Yuvraj Singh played his first competitive match in the second edition of Global T20 Canada.

Yuvraj Singh-led Toronto Nationals took on Chris Gayle's Vancouver Knights in the opening match.

The former India batsman - who walked in at No. 4 - struggled with a back issue at the CAA Centre in Brampton on Thursday. The World Cup-winning India star faced 27-ball for 14 before being dismissed in a bizarre manner.

Yuvraj got a faint edge in the 17th over bowled by medium-pacer Rizwan Cheema. However, wicketkeeper Tobias Visse missed a simple opportunity but the ball went on to hit the stumps.

The batsman's foot was inside the crease but Yuvraj started walking off the field even before the umpire's gave their decision.

Following Yuvraj's dismissal, Kieron Pollard walked in and smashed 30 from just 13 balls. Toronto reached 159 for 5 in 20 overs.

In the second innings, the Vancouver Knights gunned down the target in just 17.2 overs.

Chadwick Walton and South Africa star Rassie van der Dussen hit half-centuries each to stitch a match-winning stand of 126 runs.

Yuvraj on his back issue:

After his team's defeat, Toronto Nationals captain Yuvraj Singh gave an update about his back issue.

"It was a good game but we were never in the game. Credit to the Knights though, they played really well. My back is not so great at the moment, maybe a few drinks tonight will help me relax a bit," Yuvraj said.

Yuvraj's team will next face Kane Williamson-led Edmonton Royals on Saturday.

The 2nd edition of Global T20 Canada features six teams: Toronto Nationals, Vancouver Knights, Montreal Tigers, Winnipeg Hawks, Edmonton Royals and Brampton Wolves.
