When ICC played the TV Umpire.
The International Cricket Council (ICC) manages one of the biggest sports in the world. However, the highest governing body of cricket recently donned a new role- that of a Third Umpire.
There is nothing more exiting in the game of cricket then watching an on-field umpire signal for the TV umpire.
The third umpire plays a crucial part in the game of cricket these days. He is the one who adjudicates those touch-and-go or controvesial decisions like run outs or stumpings during a game. Nowadays, in the days of DRS their responsibilities have increased a lot.
However, sometimes there is no one present to play this crucial role. So, some cricket enthusiats did the next best thing- they asked the ICC.
The world cricket body recently received a video from a fan called Hamza who asked it to rule if the batsman in a street match being played in Pakistan was out or not out.
In the video, the batsman can be seen trying to smash the ball but managing to only dab it in front. Due to windy conditions, the ball retracts, sneaks between his legs and hits the wicket. While the bowler claims the wicket, the batsman protests.
Hamza asked ICC to rule in the matter.
ICC did tweet its decision. "A fan named Hamza sent this video to us this morning asking for a ruling. Unfortunately for the (very unlucky) batsman, law 32.1 confirms... Out!"
