India whitewashed the West Indies 2-0 in the recently ended Test series. Virat Kohli-led Indian side wrapped up the match inside three days on both the occasions.

Apart from their dominant performance in the whites against the Windies, the talking point was also the temperature that rose above 38 degrees in both Rajkot and Hyderabad and that certainly made life difficult for both the sides on the field.

Kohli ensured his boys received regular drinks break even though it was questioned by the umpires and opposition skipper. It was crucial for the captain and team management to maintain the fitness of their players under the extreme weather conditions.

After the second Test ended in Hyderabad, Indian team’s fitness coach Shankar Basu, post the completion of the second Test, explained how the players fought and the scorching heat during the Test series in a video which was posted by the Board for Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on the social media on Sunday.

“There have been many papers written on the importance of ice baths. Over a period of time, we have fine-tuned things as per the needs of our team and what works and what doesn't for certain members of the team. In the subcontinent conditions the ice bath does work pretty well,” Shankar said.

India’s Vice-captain Ajinkya Rahane finally found form as he played a crucial 80-run knock during the second Test in Hyderabad. Praising Rahane's commitment towards his fitness Shankar said, "Jinx (Rahane) is a hard-working freak. He is always after us. At times I have to stop him from working too hard."

After thrashing the West Indies in the Test series, Kohli and Co will now lock horns with the visitors in the five-match ODI series. The first ODI will be played on October 21 at the Barsapara Cricket Stadium in Guwahati.
