Virat Kohli’s success in Australia is phenomenal when one talks about the Indian cricket team. His greatest feat as captain remains the 2018/19 2-1 series win in Australia which was the first by any Indian cricket team in their history. His batting has reached spectacular heights in Australia, breaking records every single time and sometimes even eclipsing Sachin Tendulkar’s magnificence against Australia. In the upcoming series, Virat Kohli has a chance to achieve a historical milestone when he plays the three ODIs, three T20Is and the Pink Ball Test in Adelaide. The Indian skipper will miss the remaining three Tests in order to be with his wife Anushka Sharma as he expects the birth of his child.

Virat Kohli has a total of six centuries in Tests in Australia and three ODI centuries Down Under. With a total of nine centuries combined across formats, Kohli is on the cusp of achieving something special. If Kohli hits a century in the ODIs or the T20Is, Virat Kohli will become the first player in the history of cricket to hit 10 centuries against Australia in their home turf across formats. Virat Kohli is currently level with England’s Jack Hobbs who also has nine centuries but all of them came in Tests.

If Virat Kohli hits a century in the Pink Ball Test, he will have the most number of centuries by an Indian batsman in Tests against Australia. Currently, Kohli is level with Sachin Tendulkar who has hit six centuries in Australia. Technically, Kohli has 11 centuries in Australia as he hit 107 in the 2015 ICC Cricket World Cup clash against Pakistan in Adelaide and also a brilliant 133 against Sri Lanka in Hobart in 2012.

Brilliance in Australia

Virat Kohli made an impact in his first tour itself in 2011/12 as he was one of the lone bright spots for India in their dismal tour which ended with a 0-4 loss. Virat Kohli hit 75 in Perth but in Adelaide, he rose to the occasion and smashed 116 as India had something to talk about in the tour.

In the 2014/15 tour, Kohli’s brilliance went up a notch as he smashed two centuries in the Adelaide Test and matched the feat of Vijay Hazare. Kohli followed it up two more centuries in Melbourne and Sydney and he ended the tour with 692 runs but it was not enough to avoid defeat as India lost the series 2-0. In 2018/19, Kohli scored a magnificent hundred on a difficult Perth wicket as he showed his class.

In ODIs, Kohli hit two centuries in the 2016 series when he smashed 117 and 106 in Melbourne and Canberra while in 2018/19, he continued his love affair with Adelaide as he blasted his eighth ton in ODIs against Australia with a brilliant 104.
