Team India captain Virat Kohli finally broke silence on the cancelled fifth Test match against England in Manchester, terming the whole incident as “Unfortunate”. It is to be noted that the fisth Test was called off at the last moment after some members in Team India support staff tested positive for COVID-19.

British media slammed the Indian team for failing to follow the COVID-19 protocols as head coach Ravi Shastri and four other members of the Indian support staff got infected with the coronavirus. After the cancellation of the fifth Test, Kohli, Rohit Sharma and other Indian cricketers flew to UAE to join their respective IPL teams. Kohli will remain in quarantine for 6 days before he joins Royal Challengers Bangalore for training for the remaining matches of IPL 2021.

In “RCB Bold Diaries” series, Kohli expressed disappointment over the cancelled Test and said that it was unfortunate that Indian players had to leave England without completing the series. All the Indian players are currently quarantining in the bio-bubble of their respective teams as IPL 2021 is set to resume from September 19.

“Unfortunate that we had to end up here early, but with COVID in place, things are very uncertain. Anything can happen at any time,” Kohli said.

The Indian team decided to cancel the fifth Test after a support staff named Yogesh Parmar tested positive. It is to be noted that the BCCI and ECB are holding discussions over this matter and are trying to find a solution.
