Former Team India cricketer Aakash Chopra expressed his desire to see MS Dhoni and Suresh Raina playing in foreign leagues of they are 'not presenting themselves for selection for the Indian team'. Dhoni had announced his international retirement on August 15 and that sent social media and billions of cricket fans into meltdown. Raina, who is also MS Dhoni’s team-mate in Chennai Super Kings, also announced his retirement from the international stage on the very same day just a few minutes later.

Thus, in one stroke, the jersey numbers seven and three had retired from international cricket, that too on India’s 74th Independence Day.

With them too officially bidding adieu to Team India, Aakash Chopra suggested that if there is a scope for them to play in the BBL or CPL now that they have retired from international cricket.

"I think they should be allowed because if they have retired and if they are not presenting themselves for selection for the Indian team, then there should be no harm in letting them go. There are two sides of this story, one is workload management," Chopra said in a video on his recent YouTube channel.

"BCCI does not let their contracted players go to play in overseas leagues because they do not want to risk an injury scare and, thus they are paying them enough money to stay put."

"So I think Dhoni and Raina should be allowed to play. Just imagine how much fun it would be to see them playing. I don’t see Dhoni playing in foreign leagues but Suresh Raina is just 33 and he will want to play more cricket,” he further added.

Both MS Dhoni and Suresh Raina will be back in action at the IPL 2020 in UAE for Chennai Super Kings (CSK) on the opening day of the tournament against Mumbai Indians (MI) on September 19.
