Former India opening batsman Gautam Gambhir on Tuesday announced his retirement from all forms of cricket, saying his time to continue with the game was over. The 37-year-old Delhi batsman announced his decision in a video post on his social media handles.

History will judge Gautam Gambhir kindly

Gambhir played in 58 Tests between 2004 and 2016, scoring 4154 runs at an average of 41.95, with the help of nine hundreds and 22 fifties. He also played in 147 ODIs between 2003 and 2013, besides featuring in 37 T20 Internationals.

Gambhir will best remembered for his knocks of 75 and 97 in the finals of 2007 World T20 and 2001 World Cup. He was India's top scorer both matches helping them win these titles.

Gambhir's former teammate Harbhajan Singh wished him the best of luck.

Gambhir also led Kolkata Knight Riders to two IPL titles under his captaincy. The IPL franchise were among the first to hail Gambhir calling him 'special'.

Gambhir also played for Delhi Daredevils (now Delhi Capitals) in Indian Premier League.

IPL franchise Chennai Super Kings also hailed Gambhir's contributions.

Cricket fans also took to twitter to express their gratitude towards Gautam Gambhir.

Gambhir will end his career with the Ranji Trophy match against Andhra starting December 6.
