T20 World Cup 2021: Another upset! David Wiese helps Namibia stun Netherlands, keep their hopes alive

At halfway mark, 165 seemed a difficult chase for the Namibian side, who were coming off a game against Sri Lanka in which they were bowled out for just 96 runs but skipper Gerhard Erasmus and former South Africa all-rounder David Wiese stitched a 93-run partnership off just 51 balls to shock the Netherlands and keep their hopes alive in the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2021.

Openers Stephen Baard and Zane Green got the men in blue off to a decent start, however, one wicket brought two and two brought three as they lost 3/18. Namibia were in deep trouble needing 113 runs off just 70 balls and needed something special to pull the game off and the duo of Erasmus and Wiese provided just that.

After seeing the Dutch skipper Pieter Seelar's over, both attacked the bowlers from the other end. Their first target was Roelof van der Merwe as Erasmus and Wiese hit one six each and they just stepped their foot on the gas from thereon.

The boundaries kept flowing as it was an exhibition of sheer power hitting and fearlessness from both the batters.

Wiese brought up his half-century off just 29 balls as Namibia were now ahead of the rate. However, they still had a game to be won and couldn't take it lightly.

Tim van der Gugten dismissed Erasmus but Wiese and JJ Smit ensured there were no more hiccups as they chased down the total with one over to spare.

Earlier, opener Max O'Dowd's brilliant innings of 70 runs off just 56 balls helped the Dutch get to a very competitive total of 164 but eventually it didn't prove to be enough and they are all but out of the comepetition.
