When talks about MS Dhoni arises, the first question that comes to everyone's mind is about his retirement.

From making himself unavailable for the West Indies tour for serving the army to not being part for the South African series, Dhoni's future in the team remains doubtful.

However, it has been learnt that the veteran wicketkeeper-batsman is sitting out in order to give the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) time to prepare Rishabh Pant as well as his back-ups for next year's ICC T20 World Cup, according to a report in news agency IANS

It has also been revealed that the 38-year-old has made himself unavailable till November this year. This means Dhoni would not be a part of the team for the forthcoming series against Bangladesh either.

However, he could return when West Indies arrive in India for a 3-match ODI and a 3-match T20I series in December, according to IANS.

Dhoni is said to be out of the team for a purpose and by doing this he is giving BCCI enough time to prepare Pant as well as a few other wicket-keeping prospects - the likes of Sanju Samson and Ishan Kishan - for the 2020 World T20.

While there is no clarity on whether Dhoni plans to play cricket for India again, he may still be seen as a backup option if the team management fails to come up with a solution.
