Team India underwent a massive collapse losing seven wickets for just 93 runs as they folded for 225 at R Premadasa Stadium after choosing to bat first in the third and final ODI of the series against Sri Lanka. The visitors were cruising at one stage despite having lost three wickets having scored 147 runs in 23 overs.

Skipper Shikhar Dhawan fell early but the other opener Prithvi Shaw got an able ally in the debutant Sanju Samson. Shaw played his shots, while Samson was watchful at the start. Once both were set and into their 30s, they started using the long handle.

Both of them tore into the Sri Lankan spinning duo of Akila Dananjaya and Praveen Jayawickrama and brought the sweep shot to the full effect, especially Shaw. While Samson hit more in the v, smashing a six straight down the ground, a pull shot and a couple of inside-out shot.

Unfortunately for India, both fell in quick succession but Suryakumar Yadav picked up from the last game and hit a flurry of boundaries, to keep with the run rate.

However, a rain delay and the home side came back strongly after the break. Their spinners bowled well and they utilised the DRS pretty well.

Jaywickrama sent back Manisha Pandey and Hardik Pandya in quick succession while Akila Dananjaya accounted for Suryakumar Yadav, who played an entertaining knock of 40 runs off just 37 balls and the debutant Nitish Rana.

India were reduced to 195/8 and on the verge of folding for less than 200 if not for Navdeep Saini and Rahul Chahar's 29-run stand.

Sri Lanka will now need 227 runs (DLS adjusted target) to win the third ODI and avoid a whitewash.
