Fast bowling duo of Deepak Chahar and Bhuvneshwar Kumar displayed an all-round display with both bat and ball on Tuesday as India registered a famous come-from-behind victory against Sri Lanka in the second ODI by three wickets to take an unassailable 2-0 in the three-match series.

India were on the verge of a loss after being 193/7 with all their specialist batsmen back in the shed, however, it was Deepak Chahar who starred for the visitors playing an exceptional knock of 69 runs off just 82 balls, also notched up his maiden half-century in international cricket on the course of it.

Chahar, on the way, also registered his name in the record books as his score of 69* is the highest by a number 8 or lower by an Indian batsman in a successful chase, surpassing Bhuvneshwar Kumar's 53* at No 9 against Sri Lanka in 2017.

Chahar and Bhuvneswar Kumar's 84*-run stand is the joint-second highest partnership for India for the eighth wicket behind MS Dhoni and Bhuvneshwar Kumar's 100*-run partnership against Sri Lanka in 2017. Harbhajan Singh and Praveen Kumar also stitched an 84-run stand for the eighth wicket against Australia in 2009.

Chahar also became the first Indian cricketer after Yuvraj Singh to score 50-plus runs and take two wickets in the same game against Sri Lanka since 2009 as the former Indian all-rounder scored 73 runs and picked 2/39 in Colombo.

The three-wicket win was also the Indian team's 10th consecutive win against Sri Lanka in Sri Lanka as the hosts last won a game against India on their home soil back in 2012.

This was also the 9th consecutive bilateral ODI series win for Team India against Sri Lanka. Sri Lanka last won an ODI series against India back in 1997. Since then India have won 10 out of 12 bilateral ODI series between the two nations, while two were drawn.

The two sides will take on each other in the final match of the series on Friday, July 23 at the same venue R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo.
