Shikhar Dhawan, who last played a Test for India in the recently ended England tour, might have played his final Test for India, according to media reports out on Friday.

After Murali Vijay was dropped following his scores of 20, 6, 0 and 0 in the first two Tests against England in the UK, Dhawan was roped in as his replacement in the playing XI and he was also told that the rest of the three Tests in the series were his final chance to prove his credentials as the team management considered Dhawan’s attacking approach top the order still was as asset for the Indian team.

“After Vijay failed in the second Test, Dhawan was told that he was going to get a free hand in the rest of the three Tests as the team management and selectors believed he could be an asset up the order as he could dominate any attack. But he was also told that if he couldn't perform, then a call would be taken on his Test future. He could stil continue playing red-ball cricket in domestic cricket but it's time some other person was tried to open the batting," a source said.

According to the same report, Dhawan apparently even before the Windies squad was announced had booked his flight for Australia, where his wife and kids lived, from their Asia Cup host city of Dubai.

On the other hand, Vijay recently accused the team management and selectors for not communicating with him after he was dropped from the side ahead of the third Test in England. However, the latest information suggested that it was the BCCI who got Vijay his Essex contract and also got his visa extended so that Vijay could play in the County Championship.

On September 9, when Vijay signed a deal with Essex, the BCCI officials had spoken to him about how they wanted him to play some County cricket to get back to form and regain his confidence.
