Shane Warne's Baggy Green cap sold for Rs 4.9 crore at charity auction for Australia bushfire relief

Cricketing great Shane Warne had made his Baggy Green cap available for auction to acquire funds to give back to the Bushfire Appeal aiding those affected by the devastating fires across Australia.

The baggy green is a prized possession for any Test cricketer and the 'King of Spin' had put it up for auction for a greater cause.

Record-breaking temperatures and months of severe drought fuelled a series of massive bushfires across Australia.

Warne's cap was finally sold at a price tag of 1 million Australian dollars on Friday (January 10) and as promised, the cash will be donated for bushfire relief.

Shane took to social media to express his delight over the cause and said: "Thank you so much to everyone that placed a bid & a huge Thankyou/congrats to the successful bidder - you have blown me away with your generosity and this was way beyond my expectations! The money will go directly to the Red Cross bushfire appeal. Thankyou, Thankyou, Thankyou ".

This means Shane's cap overtook MS Dhoni's bad and Sir Donald Bradman's cap which was sold for jaw-dropping price tags of £100,000 in 2011 and $425,000 in 2003 respectively.

Not just Warne, Australia’s fast bowlers too have pledged $1000 for every wicket they take in the Sydney Test.

Big Bash Stars including Chris Lynn and Glenn Maxwell are donating $250 per six they hit this season. Other big names in the cause are Nick Kyrgios, Ashleigh Barty and Daniel Ricciardo.
