Inform Team India opener Rohit Sharma has lauded his fellow Mumbai cricketer Shreyas Iyer and claimed he will help the 'Men In Blue' achieve more trophies in years to come.
The 32-year-old also expressed his thoughts on how Iyer is the perfect player to take up the number 4 spot in the Indian lineup.
“Shreyas knows that he will now bat at No.4 for years to come. He feels secure and can now execute his plans freely. The other guys will first need to make the respective spots their own," Rohit was quoted as saying to Hindustan Times.
"KL has had a good time and will go in with a good mindset moving forward. We can’t really judge them as a group after two or three matches. We need to wait till they have played sufficient matches together,” he added.
The Indian management has been experimenting with different personnel for that spot ever since the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019. But are still yet to come up with a fixed name.
Ever since Iyer was brought into the lineup, the Mumbai cricketer has always found a way to perform for the 'Men In Blue' with the bat.
Rohit also said that KL Rahul, Rishabh Pant, Shivam Dube and Shreyas Iyer have all had positive impacts on the national side and with more playing time together, they will only be getting better.
“The problem is that between KL (Rahul), Rishabh, Shreyas, and Shivam, they haven’t played many matches together as a team," he claimed.
"But that will happen now and once that happens, they will get some confidence. Things are changing now. Shreyas (Iyer) is No.4 now and he is doing pretty well."
"Rishabh (Pant) did well in the West Indies ODIs. Shivam (Dube) has started doing well. So, I am confident, our youngsters will step up,” Rohit added.
