Team India opening batsman KL Rahul once again played an excellent knock during his side's 7-wicket win over Sri Lanka on Tuesday (January 7) in Indore.

The 27-year-old played some exquisite shots during his 32-ball 45 innings before getting sent off by Wanindu Hasaraanga and helped his side lay a proper foundation in chase of 143.

Due to BCCI's decision to rest Rohit Sharma for the series against Sri Lanka, Shikhar Dhawan made his long-awaited comeback into the line after successfully recovering from his knee injury.

Dhawan played a slower innings on the day and scored 32 runs off 29 deliveries before falling victim to Hasaranga as well.

During the post-match ceremony, KL was asked who he likes between Rohit and Shikhar as his preferred opening partner to which he said: "We all go out there with a simple plan which is to win the game for your country, Rohit Sharma makes it look so easy and I've always battled with Shikhar especially at the start of my Test career and we understand each other well and I just enjoy batting with both of them."

Lokesh also lauded the Team India bowlers and claimed they made it easy for the batsmen massively on the chase.

"It was a smaller target and my plans were simple which is to spend some time in the middle. Our bowlers bowled really well and anything around 170 on this wicket would have been par. A lot of credit must go to the bowlers," he said.

"I have just been getting runs and the reading of the game has gotten a lot better and knowing how to build my innings again. I felt that was lacking and I always knew I had the game to get runs and it was just a matter of spending time in the middle, really happy to carry on the same way."

With this victory, the 'Men In Blue' have secured a 1-0 lead in the three-match T20I series.

The two teams will meet again in Mumbai for the third and final match of the series on Friday (January 10).
