Rohit Sharma gets new role, becomes fielding coach for...

Indian cricketer Rohit Sharma has been appointed as the fielding coach of Indian team for the Physically Disabled Champions Trophy 2025.  

The Champions Trophy will take place in Sri Lanka and will commence from January 12 in the country’s capital, Colombo. This tournament will feature teams from four countries- India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, the host team and England.  

The Differently Abled Cricket Council of India (DDCI) in an official release said, “We are delighted to confirm your (Rohit Sharma) appointment as the Fielding Coach for the Indian Physical Disability (PD) Cricket Team participating in the PD Champions Trophy 2025, scheduled to be held from January 12 to January 22, 2025, in Colombo, Sri Lanka.” 

The Indian skipper used to play for professional cricket before 2019-2020. He stopped playing as a cricketer as he suffered a serious injury. He was previously also a fielding coach and also a sidearm specialist in his cricket career four years ago. Back then, there was huge demand for such professionals and Rohit Sharma was an expert in giving quality practice sessions. 

Ravi Kant Chauhan, Secretary General of the DCCI wished the team good luck, he said, “The players have worked tirelessly to reach this stage, and their dedication is unmatched. I am certain they will leave a lasting mark on the global stage and the entire nation is rooting for their success.” 

The team is captained by Vikrant Ravindra Keni and Ravindra Gopinath Sante is its vice-captain, both hail from Mumbai. Team India includes wicketkeepers Yogender Singh from Madhya Pradesh and Devendra Singh from Uttar Pradesh.
