As South Africa cruised to an easy victory in the Boxing Day Test against Pakistan on Friday, the match will always be remembered for an unwanted record set by the captains Faf du Plessis and Sarfraz Ahmed in Test cricket.

Chasing 149 in the final innings, South Africa lost their first wicket in the very second over of their innings as Aiden Markram got dismissed for a two-ball duck.

The duo of Dean Elgar and Hashim Amla built a 119-run stand for the second wicket before the former was sent back to the pavilion by Shan Masood. Middle-order batsman Theunis de Bruyn followed him to the dugout soon and then came Proteas captain du Plessis when the hosts were 136 for 3.

When du Plessis got out for a six-ball duck, he found himself and his counterpart in a forgettable record that would be remembered forever in Test cricket.

In the Centurion Test, both Ahmed and du Plessis got out for a duck in both the innings and it was for the first time in Test history that both captains had bagged pair (duck) in a match.

Hashim Amla and Temba Bavuma remained unbeaten on 63 and 13 respectively as South Africa defeated Pakistan by six wickets in the first Test at the SuperSport Park, Centurion.
