Virat Kohli was rested from the recently-concluded Asia Cup 2018 because of mental fatigue, revealed the head coach of the Indian cricket team Ravi Shastri.

"Virat needed this rest. Physically he is a bull. You can't give him out of the ground. And the thing with Virat is if he plays, then you know the level of intensity he brings. So it was a case of just mental fatigue, giving him a break, take your mind off cricket and then come back fresh", Shastri was quoted as saying by Gulf News.

Ravi Shastri also added that Virat was not the only player who will be given similar rest and the same process will be followed for others as well.

"And we will have to do it with a lot of other players. You know like Bumrah (Jasprit Bumrah) and Bhuvi (Bhuvneshwar Kumar), we have to sustain them and keep them energetic", he added.

India’s pace spearheads Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Jasprit Bumrah were rested for the two-match Test series against West Indies. As per the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), they were rested to manage their recent workload.

Virat Kohli will be back at the helm for the upcoming two-match Test series against West Indies starting October 4  at the SCA Stadium, Rajkot.
