India's Ravichandran Ashwin became the fastest bowler to pick 300 wickets in Test cricket on Monday as India beat Sri Lanka by an innings and 239 runs in the Nagpur test match.

The off-spinner overtook former Australian speedster Dennis Lillee to set the new record. Lahiru Gamage was Ashwin’s 300th scalp.

Ashwin has picked up 300 wickets in 54 Test matches since his debut against West Indies in 2011, while Dennis Lillee picked up his 300th scalp during his 56th Test match.

Sri Lankan Muttiah Muralitharan at the third position in the list. The record of fastest to 300 wickets by an Indian was held by former spin legend Anil Kumble who achieved the feat in his 66th Test.
