Australian all-rounder Mitch Marsh has injured his bowling hand after punching a dressing room wall during Western Australia's Sheffield Shield draw with Tasmania.

Scans on Marsh’s hand have revealed that he has a fracture. He will be sidelined for several weeks and will be in a race with time to be fit for the next Test match.

The incident took place when Australia's incumbent No. 6 had reached 53 in WA's second innings before he was caught and bowled by Jackson Bird in the first over of play.

The match ended in a draw and Marsh took out his frustrations in the changing room.

“Western Australian captain Mitch Marsh injured his hand during (Sunday’s) Sheffield Shield match against Tasmania at the WACA ground,” said a statement from his team.

“Marsh sustained the injury when he struck the wall in the changerooms following his dismissal earlier in the day.

Western Australia’s next match is against Victoria on Friday and missing it would be a setback to Marsh’s chances of being selected for the first Test against Pakistan, which gets underway in Brisbane on November 21.
