Prithvi Shaw has endured a torrid time in the current tour of Australia. The Mumbai batsman failed in the Adelaide Test and was dropped from the team after scoring 0 and 4. The criticism of Prithvi Shaw has been around ever since his poor show for Delhi Capitals in IPL 2020. Now, on the first day of the fourth Test between India and Australia in Brisbane, Prithvi Shaw was once again at the receiving end of some serious trolling from social media. The incident took place when Washington Sundar was bowling to Marnus Labuschagne. The batsman took a quick single and Prithvi Shaw had a shy at the striker's end. However, his wayward throw hit Rohit Sharma on the hand and thus serious injury was averted. Rohit Sharma was not amused by the throw and it only served to fuel the frustration of netizens towards Prithvi Shaw.

The on-air commentators laughed it off by saying that it was a case of friendly fire or unfriendly fire. However, netizens did not take it too kindly and Prithvi Shaw was trolled by saying that he is desperate to get into the Indian playing 11 by injuring someone. Some said Prithvi Shaw was desperate to play in the Brisbane Test and that could only be possible if there was a concussion to one of the players, so that he can be used as a substitute.

Shaw criticises critic

Prithvi Shaw has been under the hammer after his twin failures in the opening Test of the ongoing India-Australia series. Shaw score 0 and 4 in India’s eight-wicket loss in the day-night Test in Adelaide last week which saw the visitors bundled out for just 36 in the second innings. India's 2018 U-19 World Cup-winning skipper took to Instagram and posted a message that read – 'If sometimes people demotivate you for something you try to do, that means you can do that but they can't'.

Shaw began with a century on debut against West Indies – scoring 134 at Rajkot and followed that up with a 70 in the next Test at Hyderabad against the same opposition. However, on his first overseas tour of New Zealand, the 21-year-old had scores of 16 and 14 and 54 and 14 in the two-Test series which India lost 2-0. Although Shaw still averages 42.37 in Test cricket, his technical flaws have been thoroughly exposed at the highest level which has led to plenty of criticism coming his way. A message like this posted on the social media will do no favours to Shaw in the long run.

Meanwhile, the visitors created an unwanted record after their humiliating batting performance against Australia in the second innings where neither of the batsmen managed to reach even double figures and the Men-in-Blue were eventually restricted to 36/9. India have now registered their lowest ever score in the game's longest format. Their previous lowest score in Test cricket was against England at the 'Mecca of Cricket' Lord's back in June 1974.
