The Pakistan Cricket Board on Thursday suspended cricketer Umar Akmal with immediate effect under its Anti-Corruption Code. The board said he cannot take part in any cricket-related activity pending the investigation being carried out by PCB's Anti-Corruption Unit.

In a statement issued on its website, the PCB said he was suspended under Article 4.7.1* of the PCB Anti-Corruption Code.

The Pak board refused to divulge more information on the ongoing investigation.

It said Pakistan Super League franchise Quetta Gladiators are allowed to apply for Umar Akmal’s replacement in the league. The defending champions will take on two-time former winners Islamabad United in the opening match on Wednesday.

According to the PCB, its Article 4.7.1 reads as: Where either (a) the PCB decides to charge a Participant with an offence under this Anti-Corruption Code; or (b) the PCB considers that there are other exceptional circumstances relevant to a Participant (for example, where any relevant police authority has arrested and/or charged a Participant with an offence under any relevant criminal law in respect of facts or circumstances that may also constitute an offence under this Anti-Corruption Code), it, shall have the discretion, in circumstances where it considers that the integrity of the sport could otherwise be seriously undermined, to Provisionally Suspend the Participant pending the Anti-Corruption Tribunal‟s determination of whether he/she has committed an offence.

Twitter users were amused with the suspension as it came a day after Akmal's caption goof-up

The out of favour wicketkeeper-batsman on Wednesday posted a selfie on the micro-blogging website with teammate Abdul Razzaq.

He captioned the post saying "Mother from another brother" in a goof-up when he clearly meant to right 'brother from another mother', a euphemism for a brother-like friend.

Here are some of the tweets mocking him as the news of his suspension came in.
