Pakistan will host three ODIs and three Twenty20 Internationals against Zimbabwe in October and November 2020 after the Zimbabwe government gave the green signal for the tour after getting an official letter from Sports and Recreation Commission (SRC) Director-General. Both teams will have to take the coronavirus precautions as well be in the bio-bubble. Zimbabwe has already started preparations for the Pakistan series with a 25-member training camp in Harare on Tuesday.

It is being said that Zimbabwe will reach Pakistan on October 20 after the Pakistan Cricket Board announced the fixtures of the match. The series will begin with the three ODIs scheduled from October 30 to November 3 in Multan while Rawalpindi will host the three T20Is from November 7th to 10th.

The choice of Multan is very interesting. The cricket stadium has not hosted a single international game since the 2008 ODI against Bangladesh. Following that series, Pakistan was under international isolation from cricket after the terror attacks on the Sri Lanka team in 2009.

Playing in the bio-bubble

Zakir Khan, the PCB's director of international cricket said in a press released that the board strategically scheduled Zimbabwe's matches in Multan and Rawalpindi because they are the venues which will be hosting the National T20 Cup from 30 September to 18 October.

According to the coronavirus protocols in Pakistan, the Zimbabwe team will have to undergo two coronavirus tests 48 hours before they leave Harare. There will be a second round of testing once they reach Pakistan. Players who are negative can immediately train in a cricket facility while those who turn out to be positive will have to undergo a mandatory five-day isolation period. After that, they will have further two tests to ensure they are negative.

International cricket slowly returned to Pakistan in 2015 thanks to Zimbabwe. Following their tour, Sri Lanka arrived for a T20I followed by the ICC World XI and West Indies. Sri Lanka, though, ended Pakistan’s Test exile in the UAE as they played two Tests in Karachi and Rawalpindi while even Bangladesh played one Test in the country after 16 years. The Pakistan Super League was also held in the country in entirety before the tournament was stalled due to the coronavirus pandemic.
